Over the summer, Leicester City Football Club were linked with potentially targeting well over 25 players. The true number, when counting sources and outlets of lesser quality and reputation, would be much higher. Here, one of our main jobs is to sort through each and every piece of speculation. We do this in order to offer our verdict on validity, the arguable calibre of supposedly connected players, not to mention gauging the likelihood of a transfer to or away from Filbert Way, in the case of outgoing rumours.

As you can probably imagine, this is a painstaking along with time-consuming process. But an ultimately rewarding one for a Leicester fan such as myself. In addition to that factor, we hope City's Blue Army fan base are well-informed or thought is provoked from our articles. We don't get it right every time; rumours are often inaccurate too. But we shall continue in this fashion.

One example of hearsay concerning a possibly incoming prospect caught our eye over the previous few months. This was partly because, in this instance, a prospective deal was fairly agreeable, feasible, as well as plausible. The footballer in question is Josh Murphy of Portsmouth. He would have probably been a solid addition at King Power Stadium. Even in spite of LCFC having a host of talented wingers, Murphy seems totally competent in the Championship division.

With that specific story in mind, Pompey sporting director Rich Hughes has made a revelation about the East Midlands side's apparent interest in the Blues star. But did an offer actually materialise?

Portsmouth executive reveals Leicester City admiration of Josh Murphy though bid never came

We now have almost certain confirmation that Leicester want, or are interested in, Murphy. Read the quote from Hughes below:

"There was a lot of reported interest from Leicester, but that never actually presented itself in terms of an official bid, so that side of it never really happened.

“I cannot comment, in terms of official capacity, how that interest manifested itself, but we would have expected there to be interest."
Rich Hughes, Portsmouth SD

However, the Pompey exec revealed other intriguing information too. He disclosed that City did not bid for the winger, contrary to reporting.
