Leicester City star Abdul Fatawu criticised some of the Blue Army in attendance, or more accurately, those who departed Deepdale Stadium early. The winger says he and his teammates want, or need, 'more' from Foxes fans in order to be able to perform better and produce results. However, the LCFC support are too often left longing for better efforts and improved determination from the squad. Not to mention the fan base deserving much, much more from the people who own and run the East Midlands club.
So, what did Fatawu say about spectators exactly as City slumped to consecutive losses against mediocre teams? Should we put up with lacklustre defeats to sides such as Huddersfield Town and Preston North End? Should the faithful let their feelings be known, negative or otherwise? Do we agree with the Ghana international's sentiments, is there any truth to them? And what did Leicester manager Marti Cifuentes think of discontent, chanting and boos from Foxes sections of the away crowd?
Foxes foiled versus Preston North End
The juxtaposition of a 16-year-old wonderkid scoring a beauty and then the team conceding the losing goal with five minutes to go in a game you should win, is drastic. But Leicester are, unfortunately for those of us craving stability, an outfit of extremes.
Abdul Fatawu wants more from Leicester City fans but we want more from players and certainly those who run the club
When supporters see their team lose in that fashion while favourite players are being sold or advertised in the shop window, in addition to only one inconsequential signing - any fan base would become unsettled. They'll direct their anger at the pitch, the dugout, or the chairman typically.
"So disappointed about the game yesterday. But as we say and believe that Foxes never quit, then is too early at this stage of the season seeing fans leave the stadium so early when we are down by one. This is the best time we need you. You can’t be celebrating wins with the team and don’t want to lose with the team... Thanks to all the traveling fans for your amazing support but we need more."
I think Fatawu was right in requesting for spectators to remain supporting until the end. Yet these footballers must understand City's shameful plight and paying fans' rights to articulate annoyance. Many appear out of touch.
Fatawu didn't even play particularly well! Though I truly hope the attacker remains a Fox. Cifuentes offered a comparably measured evaluation:
"For now, the Spaniard has no complaints over the negative reaction from the stands.Cifuentes, Leicester Mercury
“I think the fans have the right to be disappointed when we lose games,” Cifuentes said. “Otherwise, why are they fans? They need to be happy when we win games and upset when we don’t. It’s totally fair. We didn’t play a great football game, so there’s no problem about that.""
