An article from controversial footballing chat show platform and sports media outlet talkSPORT caught our eye on Tuesday (November 18). Yes, the story does relate to Leicester City Football Club - but it won't be what you expected to read, I'm sure!
Here in the East Midlands, more specifically Leicestershire, we don't like hearing the name 'Troy Deeney' too often. As a matter of fact, I could happily go to my grave without ever hearing of the Watford versus LCFC Playoff Semifinal from May 12, 2013.
The Foxes probably also should have signed the powerful and equally disputatious striker during the many summers we were linked with him. Though Deeney ultimately stayed out of King Power clutches; he wouldn't have enjoyed being Jamie Vardy's undervalued understudy anyway!
But why are we talking of the Birmingham-born, retired footballer? He's been speaking of Leicester's Premier League title-winning captain, Wes Morgan. But the comments were far more complimentary than fans may have expected, to be frank.
In the eyes of Troy Deeney, legendary Premier League centre backs include Vincent Kompany, John Terry and former Leicester City skipper Wes Morgan
In his own words, Deeney 'competed with Vincent Kompany and John Terry, but [an] underrated Premier League winner is among my toughest opponents'. That unnamed man, as you have already guessed, is Wes Morgan.
With all due respect to the 41-year-old, and in spite of being the leader of a team who stunningly and miraculously won the English top flight, he wouldn't typically be on this list. I suppose that illustrates just how hard Morgan fought to be where he is.
While the ex-Fox was a dedicated warrior and a significant part of the 2016 Leicester machine, he isn't the most gifted of ballers to be fair. Pros such as Rio Ferdinand and Virgil van Dijk are usual suspects here.
As I alluded, it was a group effort which got City over the line. Morgan was the undisputed yet underhyped leader of that side. But what did Deeney say exactly?:
"Do you know what, the one I had the most battles with was Wes Morgan," Deeney said.talkSPORT
"He never got that much credit for his ability to read the game, organise and lead. They (Leicester City) won the league and no-one spoke about that backline."
