Leicester City is scouring the free agent market for some gems, if recent reports are correct.

Indeed, the latest transfer rumours filtering out of the King Power have linked the Foxes with a move for Conor Chaplin, who is a three-time EFL promotion winner, and Myles Peart-Harris, who was formerly on the books of Brentford in the Premier League.

Both additions would cost the Midlands giants £0 in transfer fees, as Russell Martin goes about rifling through the bargain bin to pick up a shrewd acquisition here and there.

With no senior strikers on their books at this point, it wouldn't be the wildest shout to suggest that Leicester could look at who is available in the free transfer department to boost their low numbers up top, with this ex-Manchester United striker available.

Leicester could be tempted by this £0 signing

The PFA has announced who is taking part in their pre-season camp for 2026, as 39 players - who are out of contract - try to secure a new club to call home this summer.

Out of all the names, which include ex-Sunderland duo Niall Huggins and Jonny Williams, Will Keane's does stick out, with the 33-year-old a former product of the Manchester United academy, who even went on to play in the first team set-up at Old Trafford irregularly.

He managed to forge a successful EFL career post-The Theatre of Dreams, too, but he finds himself without a team to call his own this off-season.

The Stockport-born marksman will be hoping he's homeless temporarily, with his past goalscoring expertise in League One, in particular, perhaps making him a viable striker target for Martin and Co, as they remain light on centre-forwards.

He's a proven EFL striker

Since leaving the glamour of the Red Devils behind in 2016, Keane has played for a vast array of EFL sides.

To be more precise, he has lined up for seven teams in both the Championship and League One, with a grand career tally of 123 goals next to his name.

In League One, he has looked the most at home as a nomadic individual, with an impressive 41 strikes next to his name from 113 games, with two of those goals coming about last campaign when he was on loan at Reading.

The 2021/22 season showed off Keane at his blistering best in front of goal in the taxing third tier, with a crazy 26 goals falling into his lap from 42 clashes, which saw the League One golden boot be handed to him.

Keane's EFL goal record:

On top of that personal accolade, the Latics also won promotion, which is what Leicester will be striving for, with Keane noted as having the "best season of his career" by Stephen Kenny, who called him up to the Republic of Ireland team off the back of his reinvigorated form.

The worry might well be that the 6-foot-2 striker is deep into the twilight years of his career now, with this red-hot streak then being followed up by some middling form.

Indeed, he has just five league goals next to his name, across his last two campaigns for Preston North End, and the aforementioned Royals.

Yet, for £0, there isn't a lot of risk on Leicester's end by gambling on his services, as he could be utilised as an impact option by Martin, with more fresh blood anticipated up top.

When he first broke through at Old Trafford, the 33-year-old wouldn't have foreseen that the latter stages of his career would see him be planted in the shop window in this PFA camp.

The life of a footballer is unpredictable, at the end of the day, and he would likely fancy a move to the one-time Premier League champions this summer, to show there's life in his legs still.
