Leicester could soon seal deal for striker who was hot on Lorent Tolaj’s heels

It's not exactly a well-kept secret what Leicester City's next intentions are in the transfer market.

Indeed, the main priority for the window now is winning a brand-new striker, with Russell Martin currently possessing no senior options, as we edge ever closer to the League One opener versus Notts County in August.

A wide array of options have been suggested, with Lorent Tolaj once on the Foxes' radar in their hunt for more reinforcements up top, after he scored 18 times in League One last season for Plymouth Argyle.

This sparkling run of form ended up winning him a move to the Championship to Bristol City, over a move to the sleeping third tier titans, with Tolaj already off the mark with the Robins in pre-season.

Losing out on the deadly Swiss striker doesn't have to be the end of the world, though, as the Foxes could still win a potent attacker who was hot on the heels of Tolaj last season in the demanding division...

Leicester's next possible striker move

It has been widely reported that both Dom Ballard and Elijah Adebayo are on the Leicester shopping list as two possible recruits.

Ballard is just fresh off a League One golden boot winning campaign with Leyton Orient, so is understandably a man in demand. Adebayo, on the other hand, is trying to find his feet again after a injury-ravaged couple of season at Luton Town, and would be a free transfer pick-up if pulled off.

Alongside these two notable names, it has also been heavily speculated that the one-time Premier League champions are keen on landing on Aribim Pepple, also from Argyle.

He has been tipped to make a move to the Championship in recent memory, too, with Bolton Wanderers, Portsmouth and Sheffield United all allegedly keen from the second tier.

For Leicester's sake, they'll hope the Canadian hotshot doesn't follow his ex-teammate to the Championship, as Pepple could be an inspired addition to the depleted striker ranks at the King Power who fires Martin and Co. to immediate promotion.

He put in Tolaj level numbers last season

Tom Cleverley would have loved the strikers he had at his disposal last season in Devon.

Indeed, having Tolaj is great in its own right, when you consider his red-hot 18-goal tally, but throwing in Pepple's goalscoring prowess into the mix, as well, meant Argyle boasted a formidable striker duo at Home Park.

Unfortunately, despite the 23-year-old chipping in with 16 League One goals from 35 games to make Plymouth's firepower an even more frightening prospect, a promotion wasn't forthcoming.

Cleverley would hail the 6-foot-1 attacker as "outstanding" in January, when he was deep in a purple patch for the Pilgrims, with the number 27 managing to stand out in his own right, even as Tolaj fought for the main spotlight.

As Leicester's main attacking force, Pepple would be hungry to finally win that elusive promotion, you imagine, with the lethal marksman not downing his tools this pre-season, either, with two recent goals against non-league opposition for Cleverley's men.

Consistenly in the right place, at the right time, no matter the contest ahead of him, Pepple would surely become a firm fan favourite in no time, with the Foxes faithful sick to death of strikers such as Patson Daka fluffing chances.

In Pepple, Leicester could win a centre-forward capable of firing the goals in regularly that sees Martin's men challenge near the top-end of League One, which is very much what the Midlands giants are craving.
