Unfortunately for the slightly worried Leicester City fan base, a former Foxes loanee who could have helped the team will not be returning to King Power Stadium. City have once again missed out on a potentially key signing for the push to return to the Premier League. Marti Cifuentes will require some additional and competent or proven players in order to achieve the club and fans' goal of promotion.
In addition to covering that LCFC-related story, we have another matter affecting the East Midlands side to bring to your attention. One of our English Football League Championship title-winners has now left the club. The winger was actually underrepresented as a Fox in my opinion, as well as underrated.
However, the sale of the Leicestershire outfit's academy product produced a fair or even good fee. Could the newly raised funds, some from 100 per cent homegrown profit, now be funnelled into signings? Let's have a look at what's occurred on Filbert Way, along with what to expect going forward.
Leicester City miss out on another potentially key signing
Callum Doyle won't be coming back to the King Power. The higly rated, young centre back, who can play at left back too, has moved to Wrexham from English top flight giants Manchester City.
Clearly Pep Guardiola and his Citizens staff didn't want Doyle to remain at Etihad Stadium after loaning him nonstop for about four years. Sheffield United, Norwich City and LCFC were all named as admirers before the 21-year-old went to Wales. Meanwhile Leicester's defence still needs strengthening.
Foxes winger leaves club
As I say, I'm not sure why McAteer wasn't more valued at City, especially when we are resigned to the C'ship. He offered something unique to Foxes managers who rarely took interest.
Although a bit slight and not able to battle back and defend as competently as others, McAteer was a goal threat. He provided six finishes in 2023/24. He was at Leicester for 15 years.
