Leicester City are currently attempting to build. Though, actually, it is more of a rebuild: for the famous Foxes are undertaking an operation that is far from a simple, straightforward procedure.

Management and executives have been overhauled completely alongside backroom and support staff, and the playing roster will look almost entirely unrecognisable when the new season finally gets underway. With 16 members of the playing group having already departed the club, and more expected to follow as the weeks unfold.

Furthermore, several names are currently the subject of transfer enquiries; bright, young talents such as Jeremy Monga are widely expected to move on and generate much-needed transfer fees in the process as the club seeks to balance the books whilst reshaping its future. This means the East Midlands outfit must proceed in a manner that is both fragile and frugal, placing great reliance on loan arrangements and free transfers rather than spending large sums.

Nevertheless, a nagging feeling still lingers suggesting that further financial missteps or mishaps may yet come to pass down on Filbert Way. It is perhaps best to draw a line under such gloomy musings before bringing a turn for the worse, or sending the entire Blue Army reaching for the smelling salts, for there are glimmers of promise beginning to shine through the gloom.

Leicester City offseason positives

On a more positive footing, the LE2 club ought to secure a proper valuation and attain their price after Manchester City and former head coach Enzo Maresca came calling for Jeremy Monga. LCFC ensured they are properly rewarded for the work done in bringing him through the ranks.

Nor should supporters fear for the future, for City have a proverbial stable of starlets whose potential brings to mind that of the Coventry-born prodigy who first lit up the not too distant past. There is quiet encouragement to be taken from the early impressions given by new head coach Russell Martin too.

The 40-year-old is clearly putting this previously lacklustre squad, and all the promising young hopefuls within, through their paces. Cardio work and endurance appear very much the order of the day for the former Southampton, Rangers, MK Dons and Swansea City manager; it is fair to say that this group was in desperate need of just such a rigorous overhaul.

Once those fitness levels have been raised, the preseason friendly programme will arrive in good order, with six matches now confirmed in total. They begin with a behind closed doors workout against Northampton Town at the LCFC Training Ground on Saturday, July 11, kicking off at midday.

Followed by a trip to face Bristol Rovers at the Memorial Stadium on Tuesday, July 14, at 7pm. Then it's a short journey to Burton Albion's Pirelli Stadium on Saturday, July 18, with a 1pm start time.
