If the current Leicester City roster sans Jamie Vardy were to place for the Foxes next season, things wouldn't look too bad. Although 2024-2025 has been a disaster, it is an easier feat to try to accomplish at the Championship level of play versus in the Premier League.
In fact, considering how City have finished the year and the talent advantage they'd have over a lot of the competition, they would be expected to at least challenge for a promotion playoff spot.
As is known, however, the current Foxes' lineup and how they will look on the opening matchday for next season are going to be two different things. The exact extent of how much will depend.
For any City supporter that has even briefly monitored the club's activities, both on and off the pitch, there is not too much room for optimism that things are going to look drastically different or be improved any time soon.
At the end of the day, proper management will win out more times than not, especially when analyzing the success of a club across multiple years.
Now the ability, or in this case chance to show that there is any, of LCFC to navigate this difficult time will be tested. Relegation comes with a lot of negative consequences.
Many pitfalls resulting from Leicester's season
Less prestige and attention compared to playing in the Prem is one, although that aspect might be a welcome one in the East Midlands. The significant dip in revenue, particularly with PSR in place, will make it that much more difficult for the Foxes to get out of this spiraling hole that they find themselves in.
Then add that many players will naturally want to or be forced to leave; without the ability to attract the same quality in return, it makes it a doomed self-fulfilling prophecy.
There is not too much room for optimism that the powers-that-be will make the correct decisions with these new limitations. Hopefully for City supporters, these worries are proven wrong or invalid. Until then, it's more likely that they'll see their side relegated a second time before even daring to hope to re-enter the EPL.
