Leicester's new home shirt looks nice - without a betting sponsor

It's new kit season, as well as preseason, at the moment. That means parents of youngsters and football followers of pretty much all ages will be shelling out their hard-earned money for replica merchandise. And Leicester City's brand new shirt looks nice - especially without a betting sponsor. At present, the typically royal blue Foxes top has no underwritten company cheapening (rather than adorning) the look. Will City slap another questionable sponsor over the fresh design? Is a different, unrelated organisation lined up? Or will The King Power International Group, the club's owners, be emblazoned once more?

Leicester City and betting

Since winning a few quid (literally a tenner or like £17) on Tony Cottee and Steve Walsh being first goalscorers with my dad around 25 years ago, I have very rarely bet. We did that inside the old Filbert Street ground.

Obviously we've all had the odd flutter at the races, or a fiver against a mate's opinion. Not to mention a cheeky accumulator (acca) for the footy at the weekend. No judgement, as I've been there too.

But the betting industry's synergy with sporting organisations and its organisers appears to be fairly out of control. Most of the lesser Premier League teams definitely have one if not two gambling logos or taglines on their home, away and third strips.

Morally, this is a questionable situation with children being a major element of spectatorship supporting the game in general. We saw a ridiculous yet refreshing example of this dichotomy when Leicester's 15-year-old prodigy Jeremy Monga wasn't allowed to sport a pastime emblem he couldn't yet partake in.

Anyway, here is the new top. I rather like it.

In fact, I'd rather it be bare than contain a gambler's sponsor. King Power is preferable - just about! Yet I hope City are seeking further revenue from an outside source. Only rumour currently exists on potential club partnerships. You can, however, buy the "unsponsored" shirt now.
