Leicester City, heading into the new League One campaign, will be deemed as the clear favourites to immediately return to the Championship.

The Foxes are a huge club for the lowly division, and at the end of the day, the last time they occupied a spot in the third tier, they won the title in resounding style under Nigel Pearson.

A new manager still hasn't been confirmed at the King Power, but it would be a statement if they were to secure Russell Martin as their Gary Rowett successor, as he's more used to Championship promotion quests than attempting to be the mastermind behind a League One success story.

It will be intriguing to see what players Martin will want to keep around if he is handed the reins of the sleeping giants, with reports suggesting that Jakub Stolarczyk could be off this summer, having been the Foxes' number one goalkeeper during the pain of Championship relegation.

Could Stolarczyk leave?

As per reports from his native Poland, it is being speculated that the 25-year-old stopper could be on the shopping list of Wieczysta Kraków this off-season.

It is being alleged that Leicester will undergo a mass overhaul of playing personnel this summer to save some money, with Stolarczyk just one of many first-team players who could be sacrificed during this clean slate makeover.

Stolarczyk could be tempted to move back to his homeland, as well, having left Piast Chęciny behind in 2017, to join the then Premier League club's academy.

Moreover, there will be a major temptation on Leicester's end to cash in, with all this interest emerging from Poland, as the one-time promotion winner at the Foxes has just come off the back of a shaky season in the Championship.

There will be a temptation to cash in

Alongside looking shaky in the second tier last campaign, Stolarczyk will feel perhaps that he's ready for a fresh challenge away from the King Power.

Indeed, he has been in and around the first team picture since the 2023/24 season without ever blowing anyone away with his goalkeeping talent, with only two clean sheets collected in the Premier League during the 2024/25 campaign, which ended in the misery of relegation.

Down in the Championship, he didn't fare any better, either, with only six clean sheets tallied up from 36 games, resulting in another relegation blotting his uninspired Leicester CV.

The best next move could be to part ways, therefore, with Martin potentially dipping his toes into the market to win a far more competent and trusty pair of gloves that will excel in the lower reaches of League One.

With Stolarczyk only 25 years of age, too, the hope will be that Leicester can gain some significant cash for a player who cost them very little to add to their academy, all those years ago.

There won't be any bad blood if the number one were to move on, as Leicester go about changing their squad here and there to turn the bruised relegated side into promotion candidates.
