The list of potentials to take over the Leicester City manager role is long. Although, over the last week or so, that particular ostensible group has been cropped. One or two realistic and understated possible new Foxes bosses are among the supposed contenders. Along with some prospective candidates who would certainly supply the East Midlands club with that star power they are missing with Jamie Vardy's exit. Though Ruud van Nistelrooy had the fabulous playing career and the apparent X factor and that just didn't work.
Therefore it is probably a good thing that the latest big name linked with City's currently filled position is low in the running to the next LCFC gaffer. In fact, the very famous retired England international is actually only the 13th favourite for the Leicester manager job. He is Manchester United's all-time leading goalscorer but hasn't had a particularly great coaching career so far since retirement. I'm getting van Nistelrooy vibes here, to be perfectly frank. Who is this mystery man?
Who's in with a chance at King Power Stadium?
The top 12 in the running to succeed the Dutchman on Filbert Way according to bookmakers, in ascending order, are as follows. 12th is Ralph Hasenhuttl, then comes Des Buckingham, Johannes Hoff Thorup, Steven Gerrard, Edin Terzic, David Wagner, Gary O'Neil and Russell Martin (which makes no sense now he's at Rangers). Liam Rosenior, Michael Carrick, Sean Dyche and Danny Rohl are fourth to first respectively.
13th favourite for Leicester City manager job just happens to be Manchester United legend Wayne Rooney
Would you take Rooney at Leicester? I wouldn't relish his installation for many reasons, it has to be said. Superior possibilities exist.
"Wayne Rooney (33/1)
Previous Team:
Plymouth Argyle
Departed: 31.12.24"
While you couldn't find a much more gifted footballer, sometimes it doesn't translate managerially. The cerebral approach required for management appears somewhat missing in this case. I want substance over a 'name' at LCFC, personally.
