Huge transfer update for Leicester as multiple Foxes standout in cup
On Wednesday morning there was a rumoured transfer update for Leicester City and their fan base. The east Midlands outfit are seeking further reinforcements to strengthen the side before the window shuts. However, so far mainly underwhelming signings have occurred on Filbert Way. But will there be a more marquee addition at King Power Stadium soon? And who is Premier League prospect Bilal El Khannouss of Genk?
If you weren't aware, which is obviously unlikely, Leicester also played in the League Cup on Tuesday evening. The opposition on the night, English League Two club Tranmere Rovers, were thoroughly blown away by their top-flight opponents. But which Foxes stood out in the Carabao Cup? And who, if anyone, let the team down?
Standout Leicester City stars in League Cup rout
I am sure that if you saw the game, you will have been impressed with new acquisition Oliver Skipp. The former Tottenham Hotspur midfielder gave a good account of himself in his first Leicester start.
Jordan Ayew - who many in the Blue Army, including myself, were unimpressed with in general - was instrumental for LCFC as they faced Tranmere. The ex-Crystal Palace man scored a stunning goal and gave a solid performance as well. His holdup play was referenced in the media.
Stephy Mavididi, Harry Winks and Wilfred Ndidi were the other Foxes who managed to get themselves onto the scoresheet. Ndidi and Winks's confident finishes were mightily impressive.
While Mavididi notched his goal from the penalty spot. The Englishman will be optimistic of regaining his place for the coming EPL matches after losing out to Bobby De Cordova-Reid lately. Yet the Jamaica international didn't exactly set the King Power or his old stomping ground, Craven Cottage, alight in his first couple of City appearances. Keep an eye on that developing situation.
Goalkeeper Danny Ward was noted for his passing. Though he wasn't busy. Wout Faes and Ricardo Pereira rated slightly higher than their defensive colleagues. Caleb Okoli and Luke Thomas were each handed a six. Hamza Choudhury was rated the lowest from all midfielders; Kasey McAteer and Ndidi got satisfactory sevens. Skipp and Winks scored splendid eights.
Elsewhere, substitutes Will Alves Chris Popov received respective six ratings from Leicester Mercury. Abdul Fatawu's cameo was so brief that it didn't receive a score. Conor Coady got a five, but did very little on his welcomed return.
Foxes signing incoming
Leicester are meant to now have an agreement in place, as you can read below:
"Leicester City are said to have agreed a deal with Belgian side Genk over the 20-year-old Moroccan attacking midfielder, with Cooper dashing off to get an update from Jon Rudkin"
