Leicester seek to sign England U21 star as Vardy winds up rival fans

Leicester City legend Jamie Vardy was up to his old tricks recently by duly winding up the away fans at King Power Stadium. The fan base of Midlands rivals West Bromwich Albion were the latest unfortunate bunch to be on the receiving end of some Vardy banter and a wounding goal. Meanwhile, Foxes of Leicester comment and pass verdict because the Foxes are supposedly, and happily, seeking to sign an England U21 star. The man in question also happens to be a favourite of Manchester City supremo Pep Guardiola.

Leicester are said to be weighing up a 'swoop' for James McAtee of Man City. McAtee has been one of the few standouts while on loan with the Sheffield United team. After seeing what happened with Cole Palmer at Chelsea this season, I would suggest that this is the type of attacker that could help LCFC remain in the Premier League should they return for the upcoming campaign.

Vardy's been doing it for years. Whenever opposing supporters decide to sing insulting and derogatory songs about the former England international, he comes back to haunt them. Then he rubs salt into their figurative wounds as he joyfully celebrates scoring or winning right in their faces.

Season after season in the modern era, one thing is true for opposition sides when facing Leicester City: provoke Vardy at your peril. On this occasion the West Brom fans learnt the hard way, even though they should have known better from previous instances.

After the final whistle, just before the Foxes would head back to the east Midlands, Vardy made a 'gesture' to the Baggies faithful which supposedly 'rattled' the travelling group. This article actually refers to the iconic striker as one of the game's 'biggest wind-up merchants'. In my view, others of this ilk, such as Brentford centreforward Neil Maupay, could learn a lot from Vardy. Strategy like knowing when and where to be a nuisance and annoy opponents.

Anyway, at full-time when taking in a lap of honour at the King Power, Vardy appeared to suggest to away spectators that WBA would remain in the Championship next season. The tier two playoff-placed club would love to return to the english top-flight, of course.

The veteran 37-year-old was in high spirits as the match concluded. He was initially jeered by the West Brom support for missing a penalty. That was prior to Vardy netting the winner, naturally. Never change, 'Vards'!
