New Leicester City manager Russell Martin (the Foxes are seemingly insistent on appointing two or three bosses every year in the modern era) appears to finally be planning for next season. There was palpable worry among the fan base that it was taking LCFC far too long to appoint a fresh gaffer.

Any delays in these instances remain detrimental in the fast-paced world of football, especially for such a disjointed, poorly ran organisation like the East Midlanders. Ironically, many members of the Blue Army were not overly keen (to put it mildly) on the former MK Dons, Swansea City, Southampton and Rangers head coach.

Martin is a polarising and often criticised leader: frequently maligned for a tactical rigidity that prioritises sometimes sterile possession over end-product. Yet the 40-year-old is now firmly in place.

Even Leicester luminary Jamie Vardy has given the latest addition his blessing in a backhanded way. Incidentally, Vardy confirmed that he will not be signing for his former club, nor boyhood team Sheffield Wednesday.

Though midfielders are seemingly being lined up at King Power Stadium; a strategy that is slightly confusing given that the department is already well-stocked in general. So it appears Martin might perhaps wish to go in a different direction in the middle of the park: possibly prioritising more proven EFL Championship and League One competitors.

Technically, City actually possess some talented defensive midfielders in ex-Tottenham Hotspur pair, Oliver Skipp and Harry Winks. Albeit the latter is a likely candidate to depart after his shocking outburst and mediocre displays last season.

That leaves Hamza Choudhury and a few talented youngsters like Sammy Braybrooke and Louis Page as current options, yet anchoring midfielder Ryan Wintle is supposedly on the wishlist too. Creative ballers are undoubtedly wanted for central areas to compete with the likes of Page or Will Alves in the No.10 role as well, bringing Conor Chaplin to the attention of those in LE2.

Conor Chaplin already committed to Leicester City?

Chaplin is a skilled left-footer who is typically deployed as an attacking midfielder or a second striker, regularly drifting to the right zone to facilitate shots or shoot himself. His link-up play and late arrival for a goal are relatively renowned.

Furthermore, Chaplin is willing to put in the defensive work for his teammates that has been severely lacking under a largely uncommitted squad. Since reports emerged regarding City's interest from BBC et al., hearsay has intensified.

With the 29-year-old being a free agent after departing Ipswich Town, rumours suggest a two-year contract could be on the cards. Alternatively, a deal may already be signed!
