Russell Martin identifies new midfielder but Leicester can't delay

The central midfield department at Leicester City is one of the few remaining satisfactory areas, in a League One sense, anyway. Nevertheless, the King Power team are linked with a move for defensive midfielder and free agent Ryan Wintle.

But that possible recruit would have competition at Seagrave right now. So, will Oliver Skipp stay at LCFC? The former Tottenham Hotspur midfielder is considered 'too good' for England's third tier by some; he may desire wages too rich to be justifiable in the squad.

Then there is Hamza Choudhury as well; the Leicester-born athlete is an academy graduate whom many Blue Army members expect to be kept. He implied he would remain a Fox, slightly bravely, when confronted by fans at the LE2 ground once relegation was confirmed.

That number includes talented yet flawed former England international Harry Winks. Though the 30-year-old is likely to leave; without fanfare and surely rather unceremoniously!

A gap will therefore arise for somebody similar, which could be filled. Leicester supporters should expect to see the promising Louis Page in a more advanced role than a No.6.

Michael Golding is another option available for latest LCFC boss, Russell Martin. Although, the ex-Southampton, Rangers, Swansea City and MK Dons boss is apparently looking elsewhere to bolster his choices in the middle.

Leicester City transfer rumours

Wintle is that literal 'anchoring man' in this conversation. No, not Ron Burgundy!

"Leicester City are also in for Wintle's services, FLW can confirm, with new Foxes head coach Russell Martin looking to take them in a new direction after two relegations in a row from the Premier League into League One."

The 29-year-old cannot really be labelled a midfield dictator, like Manchester City's Rodri. Nor is he a bulldog per se.

Wintle is actually more of a deep-lying recycler, if you will: the type who can make a challenge and nibble but is more concerned with tempo and interceptions.

Maybe a lesser version of N'Golo Kante, rather than closely comparable to Wilfred Ndidi. If the man in question is signed and can make even half of those two former Foxes' respective impacts - he will go far on Filbert Way!

According to WhoScored, the Englishman has superb concentration, whilst his exceptional passing actually opens up opportunities too. While Wintle's tackling could improve or increase, his game can be described as subtler - when not playing accurate long passes.

The real element of note here is that the Newcastle-under-Lyme-born baller was oddly released by Cardiff City in spite of receiving their 'Player' and 'Players' Player of the Season' accolades.

Wintle was seemingly not offered a new contract despite being a popular figure and occasionally donning the captain's armband. The East Midlands team should snap this option up; they must act fast with Oxford United also reportedly keen.
