Russell Martin is now in the Leicester City hot seat, and he has been captured on the Foxes' social media channels overseeing the very early stages of pre-season.
Videoed giving a rallying call to his troops, as they underwent their first session under the ex-Rangers boss, the hard work begins ahead of a League One campaign that the Midlands giants must get spot on to seal an instant return to the Championship.
While Martin will already have some ideas in his head as to who will make up the basics of his first team next season, pre-season will be the perfect environment for some fringe members of the squad to stake a claim for increased first team minutes, as a clean slate has been awarded to them.
Tom Wilson-Brown falls into the category of being a promising talent for the future who will fancy his chances of some senior action, having just come off the back of a formative loan experience at Swindon Town.
Wilson-Brown will want some first team minutes
Chucked out on loan to League Two last campaign, Wilson-Brown will be linking up with the pre-season camp right now desperate to impress Martin, who was a centre-back himself during his playing days.
The 21-year-old matured an awful lot during his lone season at the County Ground, with injury troubles making the stint under Ian Holloway not all plain sailing.
He did manage to collect 22 League Two appearances when fit, and he will be believe he's ready for a step-up in division, having averaged a battling 6.3 duels won per league game in the attritional league.
Holloway was a big fan of the Leicester-born centre-back, too, with the often outspoken manager stating that he's "not sure there’s a better centre-half in any academy" after Wilson-Brown starred during a 2-0 win over Bromley for his loan employers.
The 21-year-old is yet to make the leap into the Foxes first team fold, but the drop to League One might well be the perfect opportunity for him to finally step up and impress, especially with reports that the Leicester centre-back department could soon be depleted.
Martin could be prepared to hand him some chances
Indeed, it is being speculated that both Ben Nelson and Caleb Okoli will be departing the King Power this summer, with interest in both their services coming from Italy.
Losing both centre-backs in quick succession would leave a gaping hole in the heart of Leicester's defence, and, if he does impress this pre-season, it's not the craziest suggestion that Wilson-Brown could be utilised sparingly as a reserve face at the back.
If one manager is going to get even more out of the rising Leicester star, after Holloway's kind words, it's Martin, who has been known to love a promising English defender, with the likes of Taylor Harwood-Bellis excelling under his tutelage before at Southampton.
It's unrealistic that he will go on to be a guaranteed starter, but at 21, it's now or never really for Wilson-Brown to make a first team impression, with relegation of course hurting the overall ranks, but it might prove to be a blessing in disguise for the Foxes prodigy.
