Leicester City's fate has now been sealed.

It had been coming for some time now, but after a 2-2 draw with Hull City on Tuesday night, the pain of relegation to League One finally set in.

Even if the Foxes hadn't been handed that six-point deduction, Gary Rowett's men would still be stuck in their current mire, with the former Oxford United boss going down as a flop in the dug-out, rather than a firefighter presence.

Indeed, Rowett has only picked up one sorry win from 12 games in charge, with the 1-0 defeat at Portsmouth - the match before this score draw with the Tigers - the real nail in the coffin, as the previously relegation-threatened Pompey are now safe, at Leicester's expense.

There will need to be a swift, clear-out in the summer, with scenes turning ugly post-match at the King Power, as fans rightly vocalised their frustrations to the players who have so badly let their historic club down.

Rowett will also surely be heading for the exit door, with the 52-year-old not the solution to Leicester's relegation woes, whatsoever.

It has been tentatively reported that Rowett won't be staying put past this season, as the experienced EFL manager attempts to repair his bruised reputation, having sent the one-time Premier League winners down.

Most importantly, though, Leicester needs to quickly get rid of some underperformers, as a fire sale is on the horizon in the summer.

These players must leave in a fire sale

Leicester will need to sell, not just purely based on off-performances this season, but because their very existence will depend on a balancing of the books.

High earners who have pocketed a handsome wage for numerous seasons, now, will surely be the first to try and be offloaded, with Harry Winks, Jannick Vestergaard and Stephy Mavididi all falling into this category, with their reported wage costs combined coming in at £160k-per-week.

No wonder fans were so visibly angered by Winks' arrogance at the full-time whistle of the 1-0 defeat at Fratton Park, with the ex-Tottenham Hotspur midfielder putting in limp and lifeless displays, all whilst earning £90k-per-week.

Leicester might be able to gain a significant fee from Abdul Fatawu, with the former Sporting winger once tipped to leave the King Power behind for £30m, amid interest in his services from Sunderland.

He also has a sizeable nine goals and seven assists next to his name for the season, even with Leicester tumbling down to the third tier, so a higher up suitor might put their money where their mouth is, to snap him up.

Alongside those mentioned, both Ricardo Pereira and Patson Daka will likely walk away from proceedings, as their contracts expire this coming June.

Much like Daka, Jordan Ayew will also be thrown to the scrapheap, you imagine, having offered up one too many insipid attacking displays this season, with the Ghana international unlikely to want to stick it out in a League One battle.

Realistically, a major overhaul is in order, with the players set to depart the premises at the close of the campaign, by the boat load.

A refresh is desperately needed at the end of the day, with a positive new dawn hopefully ahead, after the bitter reality of back-to-back relegations begins to sting less.
