Unless Leicester City can come up with plans before July, eight of their current squad members could well leave for nothing after the 2025/26 season. On the one hand the powers-that-be and recruitment team did a decent job this summer with many obstacles in their way. However, this was also a missed opportunity to sell or renegotiate contracts in certain instances. That's if City bosses actually want to keep some of the talent at the heart of this particular piece.
Alternatively, some supporters in Leicester's Blue Army fan base may believe that the roster is stronger due to the fact that these players remained at King Power Stadium. I am not so sure: in spite of the generally great outgoing business, people such as Patson Daka should have been permanently sold. Others on huge wages like Harry Winks, who never bought into the club's ethos, could simply run his deal down and leave without payment after costing City a relative fortune.
So which notable ballers, who could command acceptable fees, have expiring agreements? Which lesser talent will be out of contract next year? Which of the personnel should LCFC keep? And who did we want to leave? These Leicester stars and backup Foxes may perhaps eventually leave with free transfers.
Fringe Foxes
Luke Thomas, Wanya Marcal, Jordan Ayew and Asmir Begovic's respective deals expire in 2026. Obviously Begovic has just arrived; he will be judged over the course of the campaign.
"Ricardo Pereira is now in his 30s and with his injury troubles he would unlikely be the subject of a big bid. Striker Jordan Ayew will be 34 come next summer, which would not typically be an age where players are subject to transfer bids.Leicester Mercury
Under decent contracts, Luke Thomas and Wanya Marcal may fetch small fees, but neither cost City a transfer sum, both coming through the academy."
Thomas isn't an athlete I'd lose sleep over. Marcal similarly; possibly because we see so little of him. I mean, I didn't advocate Ayew's signing in the first place, so who knows there.
The Leicester City stars who might probably leave for nothing
Harry Winks, Boubakary Soumare, Ricardo Pereira and Patson Daka are the so-called notables. Selling Winks and Daka was certainly preferable considering what we now know. Soumare I'm unsure over to be perfectly honest. Ricardo definitely has a role at the club.
