Leicester City used two different XIs for the friendly match versus Northampton Town at the weekend. The first half lineup of the game was exceedingly comfortable against the Cobblers, winning their encounter 3-0.

The second half, featuring a separate City side, as mentioned, technically drew their outing 0-0, or saw the victory over the line. That view entirely depends on how people would like to interpret the scenario; dare this outlet say some positivity is emerging at present.

Either way, the latest LCFC head coach will be delighted with how his men performed, particularly to start with. Russell Martin has not yet even been afforded any new Foxes signings from the King Power powers-that-be; typically of the modern administrative climate!

Nevertheless, this maiden opposition are mere League 2 competitors, so reading too much into this one is inadvisable; the LCFC display was positive, nonetheless. Will Alves was designated the star performer of the afternoon by pretty much everybody: he showed the kind of creative ingenuity and productivity that might help force his way into prominent tactical considerations.

Alves bagged a goal himself, along with being instrumental in the buildup when Riley Carr netted. Though confusion appears to exist over the nature of the second strike: which took a significant deflection off Carr's boots after an initial effort.

The young right winger contributed to creativity alongside Alves. Carr seems like a footballer who could make his name in the lower-league limelight if he continues to sharpen his movement and technique.

Stephy Mavididi got the Leicestershire outfit going with a competent finish early on, curling a low shot into the corner with clinical precision. Having Mavididi firing on all cylinders next season would be delightful for a side looking to establish a new identity under Martin’s stewardship.

Although, the winger certainly did not look particularly delighted by scoring. Foxes observers noticed his notably stoic face amid the collective celebrations of his teammates.

However, professionals rarely feel compelled to theatrically celebrate finishes in these uncompetitive, sweltering preseason run-outs. Particularly ballers who have operated at the top of domestic football.

With a trip to Bristol Rovers looming, the squad will have further opportunities to refine these burgeoning patterns of play. Martin will look to build upon this foundation, ensuring that the fitness gains made at the Seagrave base translate into tangible consistency as competitive fixtures draw nearer.
