Just ten years ago, Leicester City were Premier League champions. A mere five years ago, the Foxes were FA Cup winners for the very first time, reaching the UEFA Conference League semi-finals as recently as 2022. Now though, following back-to-back relegations, the King Power Stadium will host EFL League One football.
This, amazingly, will be only Leicester's second season in the third-tier of their entire history. The other came in 2008/09, winning the League One title with 96 points, hoping for a repeat under Russell Martin. Ahead of the new campaign, here is a refresher of what Foxes fans should expect.
When is the EFL League One opening weekend?
The new EFL League One campaign will kick off on Saturday 15 August, with all 24 clubs in action.

Leicester are involved in the division's curtain raiser in Saturday's early kick off, facing newly-promoted local rivals Notts County at Meadow Lane. This is the first time the two East Midlands sides have been in the same division since 1993/94.
 When were the EFL League One fixtures released?
The fixtures were released on Thursday 25 June. All fixture dates and kick off times in August and September are now set in stone - subject to weather or any other foreseen postponement. The EFL and Sky Sports have confirmed that all fixtures up to and including 11 January 2027 will have confirmed dates and kick off times by Friday 31 July.
All fixture dates and kick off times up to and include 3 March will be confirmed by 6 November.
What other competitions are EFL League One clubs involved in?
Alongside their league commitments, EFL League One clubs will compete in three cup competitions. Firstly, they enter the Carabao Cup in the first round, which has been moved to the weekend for the very first time. Leicester have been drawn at home to Northampton Town, a match that will take place on Saturday 8 August.
Meantime, unlike in the EFL Championship, third-tier clubs enter the FA Cup in the first round. This is scheduled for the weekend of 7/8 November, with the second round on 5/6 December, before Premier League and Championship clubs enter in round three i January.
Lastly, the Foxes will feature in the EFL Trophy. They have been drawn in Southern Group B alongside Stevenage, Walsall and Fulham's U21s. Leicester have only ever competed in the EFL Trophy once before, known as the Johnstone's Paint Trophy at the time, beaten by Rotherham in the last 16.
How does EFL League One work?
24 teams compete in EFL League One, each playing each other home and away in a round-robin format. This means every club play 46 regular season matches per season, a higher number than in any other high-level professional league on the planet. Teams are awarded three points for a win and one point apiece for a draw.
The top two clubs are automatically promoted to the Championship. Teams in third, fourth, fifth and sixth compete in the promotion play-offs, featuring a pair of two-legged semi-finals and a play-off final at Wembley. The bottom four clubs are directly relegated to EFL League Two.
