One Leicester City player has, completely out of the blue, been given a bumper, four-year extension to his existing deal. The Fox in question is rather polarising when it comes to the Blue Army fan base's opinions. Leicester fans always seemed indifferent or unbothered about the left back over the seasons he's been at King Power Stadium. He was also on loan many times; external clubs never followed up on business after experiencing the skill set.
And City's supporters are really split over the defender's new contract, it must be said. One fan essentially commented 'Why would we do this?!' on X. However, quite a few supporters on social media came to the footballer's defence (please excuse the pun). With another commenting that the fresh agreement was as obvious as they come, as well as expected. The fan declared this when considering the player's improvements and status.
Although, I'll tell you that I can't make my mind up on the matter, and can totally see both sides of the argument. Let's get straight to it.
'Why would we do this?!' - Leicester City faithful split over defender's new contract
If you weren't aware, Leicester full back Luke Thomas was rewarded for some improved work at the back recently. I am happy to acknowledge the refinement and superior performances the former Middlesbrough and Sheffield United loanee has made in 2025.
Nevertheless if he is truly LCFC's best left back, as advocating fans have claimed, then the East Midlanders will need to strengthen upon return to the Premier League. Thomas has put in a few miraculous displays over the years; he managed to wrangle Mohamed Salah at least once.
Best LB at the club and one of the only ones that looked like he cared last year. Good deal for the club!

Though, in my view, they were rare exceptions which prove my previous sentiment. Although the Foxes academy product is seemingly satisfactory for the current campaign. One good point about securing him is ensuring an eventual sale. But what are other City fans saying?:
Why would we do this…

I know some will be against it, but he's improved, still *only* 24 so isn't the finished article just yet, clearly loves the club and if he ever does leave it's pure profit, no downside at all IMO

Im happy with this, he’s not a good player but he clearly is an asset.

Hopefully we go up and can sell him
