The radical changes at Leicester City Football Club continued on the morning of August 10 this week with the signing of Franco Ravizzoli. City have now made seven signings this summer (Christian McFarlane, Tommy Watson, Conor Chaplin, Alex McCarthy, Liam Cullen, Wes Burns and today's addition), although a senior, specialist striker is yet to arrive.
The goalkeeping department had already seen major upheaval, as promising young 'keepers headed out on loan or dropped back to the under-21 (essentially reserve) squad. Veteran Asmir Begovic departed the Foxes for good and experienced Spanish athlete Fran Vietes also left Filbert Way; the latter left without ever making a single senior appearance for the East Midlanders, a fact that casts further doubt on the LE2 club's transfer policy, recruitment style and execution.

This development now effectively sets up three-way competition for the No.1 shirt at King Power Stadium, as this writer sees the situation. The candidates are Jakub Stolarczyk, the youngest potential suitor; Alex McCarthy, an experienced goalie who previously worked under new Leicester manager Russell Martin at Southampton and knows his system well, and who reportedly rejected Chelsea to join the Leicestershire side.

Finally there is now Ravizzoli, who drew mixed reactions from his one-time fans at Blackpool. Though many supporters at his former club appear to, contrastingly, rate him as one of their best and say they have struggled to properly replace him.

It is likely that Stolarczyk still sees himself as the first-choice 'keeper, but McCarthy will have plenty to say about that battle. Meanwhile the Argentine could well emerge as the surprise pick - especially since he too briefly played under Martin.
Right now, it remains difficult to predict which of the Gk Union trio will earn the starting spot, particularly as the 36-year-old has been recovering from a minor knock; Stolarczyk started the recent EFL Cup tie against Northampton Town and kept a clean sheet, though the way Martin welcomed his new signing suggests a change between the posts may well be on the way.
Ravizzoli is a 29-year-old goalkeeper described as possessing quick reflexes, smart positioning and a calm, solid style of play rather than being flashy. He began his rise in non-league football before making his way through MK Dons, Wycombe Wanderers and the Tangerines, earning his free transfer to Leicestershire on the back of those performances.
