Wes Morgan

Where to begin with the Leicester City club captain? Obviously a non-playing Wes Morgan is still seen as crucial to the team; though his role has been in the capacity of dressing room influence. That was according to what Rodgers said about the trophy lifting skipper when re-signing him for another year in 2019.

Although this writer believes the centre-back area is more than sufficient at Leicester. And if Rodgers knew he had enough capable personnel there then there was no need for Morgan this term. Naturally we say that with all respect to the latter for his amazing service to the side over a decade.

However, at the time of the Jamaican receiving an extension to his deal, Caglar Soyuncu remained an unknown quantity in the Premier League. Nobody could have predicted quite how well he would acclimatize to the elite division, in some ways taking it by storm. Then the sale of Harry Maguire must have sent a few shockwaves down Filbert Way. Therefore Foxes of Leicester understands the decision.

Though handing Morgan another 12 months now seems a little shortsighted: the Turk along with Jonny Evans form an almost impeccable partnership. Filip Benkovic is still on the books, too; and Ryan Bennett or someone of that ilk will possibly be purchased or loaned in again.

Not to mention youthful centre-half Josh Knight, who’s reportedly impressed at Peterborough on loan. Morgan should be offered a defensive coaching job alongside Kolo Toure and a testimonial, in my opinion. Rather than the annual offer which is apparently on the table.
