Drinkwater upsets Leicester fans with post about Chilwell
A “Summer scouting mission”. That’s how Danny Drinkwater opened his recent Instagram caption with a photograph of Leicester City’s Ben Chilwell.
The 30 year-old left Leicester City for Chelsea in 2017 for £30 million but has failed to live up to the heights he set whilst at King Power Stadium. After spending last season on loan at Burnley and Aston Villa, Drinkwater will return to the Blues for next season after struggling at both clubs.
After departing the Foxes, Drinkwater hasn’t been a popular figure amongst City fans. His recent post won’t have made things easier. Pictured with the current Leicester left-back on holiday in Mykonos, Drinkwater tagged the official Chelsea Instagram page before naming his former-teammate a “great guy and some footballer too”.
With rumours continuing to link Chilwell to Chelsea, this will only add to the plot. Last season it was the case of whether Harry Maguire would leave City for Manchester United. This time, it’s whether another Englishman will depart the Foxes.
Chilwell, who has reportedly told the club he wants the transfer to Stamford Bridge, replied to the midfielder by saying: “What a guy. Good to see you bro.” Now, if a player was going to stay at a club, the best way to answer that would be, simply, to ignore it.
But for the CURRENT, Leicester player to reply all but confirms the move is in the pipeline. Will Leicester fans be bothered? Possibly. Possibly not. With one fan commenting: “Ah what do you know… two snakes that must be rare.”
It’ll be interesting to see how the deal plays out from here, with Chelsea refusing to pay the price Leicester have planted on their man. It could follow suit to how the Maguire deal concluded, with United paying £80m.
