After Brentford had their hearts broken on at Wembley by Fulham, rumours of Said Benrahma securing a move to the Premier League have gathered pace.

With Ollie Watkins close to joining West Brom, Said Benhrahma seems the most in-demand out of the three players. I previously wrote about the Algerian potentially solving Leicester City’s winger problem and now the rumours have begun to intensify with other clubs fishing for his signature.

Tottenham have begun to show interest in Benrahma recently, meaning the Foxes will now face competition for his signature. The Bees put a £25m price tag on their wide man and will have a number of other Premier League clubs interested.

Between them, Benrahma, Watkins and Bryan Mbeumbo all scored 58 goals as Brentford finished third in the Championship. However, after missing out on promotion to the Premier League, all three will be a target for top teams.

Aston Villa and Leeds United have also been rumoured to be sniffing around the 24 year-old, but it is more feasible that he will move to a team that offers European football.

Since Mahrez departed Leicester City, the Foxes have been crying out for a winger capable to produce goals and add the extra flair and creativity that was missed as they missed out on a Champions League place.

With Spurs boss Jose Mourinho confirming that the Londoners are “not going to spend rivers of money”, the club borrowed £175m from the government to ensure financial flexibility when the COVID-19 crisis took its toll.

Previously, Arsenal and Chelsea had been linked with the winger. But with Chelsea already snapping up Hakim Ziyech from Ajax and Arsenal close to capturing Willian, it opens the door to more teams.

No matter who wins the battle to sign the next Riyad Mahrez, Brentford will comfortably earn a profit after signing Benrahma from Nice in 2018 for only £2.7m.
