Leicester secure second summer signing of the week
Leicester City’s summer transfer recruitment finally got underway this week, as Timothy Castagne was announced. There’s now another one.
Leicester City’s transfer business this summer has been dull, to say the least. With Ben Chilwell departing for Chelsea, the domino effect is now in full swing.
With only Castagne arriving, there was an additional announced this week after a number of players linked with a move to the East Midlands.
Zach Booth has confirmed that he has signed for Leicester City from the Real Salt Lake academy in the United States.
The American youth international’s older brother, Taylor, plays for Bayern Munich in Germany after making the switch from the States to Europe.
Booth has been training the Foxes for some time now and announce on Friday he had signed for City.
"Speaking to ESPN, Booth said: “It was just a really good first impression with the club and the players and the coaching staff.“I just really enjoyed it from the start.”"
USA’s man first caught the eye of the Foxes scout in February when he featured in a tournament based in England for United States U17s. After rumours of Tottenham Hotspur being interest grew, Brendan Rodgers’s side-swept in for him.
Interestingly, the midfielder, who holds an Italian passport, claims Andres Iniesta was his favourite plater whilst growing up, but his main inspiration was closer to home.
"“[Taylor] paved the way for me, definitely,” he said. “He’s the one that made me want to come overseas. He gave me that drive. I just saw what it took to come over [to Europe], how hard he had to work, and I just kind of followed.”"
The fact both brothers are playing football does not come as a surprised when you look at their family history. His Dad, Chad, played collegiate soccer before coaching the game with the next generation.
His Mum, Kelli, earned All-Region, All-State and All-American honours before ACL injuries corrupted her career.
After training with Real Salt Lake’s academy for the last two years, Booth was placed on a unique training regimen by the Foxes due to him being put under quarantine.
Sessions in the back garden of the host’s family he was staying with, showed Booth what to expect before he headed to Belvoir Drive to undergo practical sessions.
"“It was just getting used to it the first two weeks, training every morning online.“But I was so excited to loke finally be with the full team.”"
It is likely that Booth will play in the U18s and U23s this season and follow the path of fellow-American Chituru Odunze, who signed from Vancouver Whitecaps last summer.
