Unfortunately for Leicester City, who also endured a 3-0 home loss to West Ham United, they now have another defender injured.

Daniel Amartey enjoyed an initial dream return to the Premier League with Leicester City, as they were unpredictably triumphant 5-2 at Manchester City’s Etihad Stadium. While he also firstly participated in a less than perfect return, thanks to a Carabao Cup defeat to Arsenal at home. His last piece of first team action was only a day ago, although it seems longer, as the Foxes were absurdly beaten 3-0 at King Power Stadium by West Ham United.

To be accurate and fair, the Ghanaian’s coordination and composure – two things he didn’t regularly exhibit for the East Midlands club when playing in 2018 and previously – were vastly improved and evident upon his return. Whilst attempting to remain honest, Amartey still has a mistake in him; yet also possesses the capacity to chase down said error and reclaim the ball, Wilfred Ndidi-style.

I like Amartey and he’s a decent squad player for Leicester – but that is all for his status in my opinion, I’m afraid. Let’s say worth keeping; but if Brendan Rodgers opts for a three-centre-back system, then new signing Wesley Fofana should be acclimatised to English top-flight proceedings.

Leicester City defender to be assessed for injury

During the terrible West Ham clash, Amartey was substituted due to a knock. Post game, the boss gave a vague assessment on the defender’s injury:

"“It looks like his hamstring, but we’ll get confirmation in the next couple of days,”– Brendan Rodgers"

That is a major blow to the Fox, especially after missing almost two-years of football. If, and at this stage it is an if, Amartey has a bad hamstring problem, he could be out for a month or two. That is of course supposition, but we can look at past cases.
