Update on Jonny Evans’ injury before Leicester meet Leeds
This article contains an update on defender Jonny Evans’ injury, before Leicester City meet Leeds United on Monday evening.
If you haven’t heard – you’d have to be under a rock that doesn’t have WiFi or a television licence, to be honest – Leicester City are suffering from major injuries presently. Yet the unavailable personnel is more intensely felt in the defensive area: Ricardo Pereira, Caglar Soyuncu, Timothy Castagne, Wilfred Ndidi – who has filled in at centre-back – and, now, Jonny Evans has another issue.
This means veteran Wes Morgan could have been partnering rookie Wesley Fofana at the back. While Castagne as well as Ricardo’s absences mean the experienced but ageing Christian Fuchs would join James Justin as a full-back.
Leicester City receive good news
However, Brendan Rodgers has confirmed that the scan results received by the East Midlands side for the Northern Irish international were positive. Because this problem wasn’t Evans’ first in 2020/21, it was slightly more concerning that the 32-year-old sustained another knock.
A heavy fall versus Arsenal caused Evans’ pains; he also watched on as his team won 2-1 in the Europa League at Greek club AEK Athens. Manager Brendan Rodgers explains:
"“We’re hopeful that Jonny will be back. We’ve had the scan and that’s come up clear. We’re hopeful that with the game 48 hours away, he’ll be available.”Via Leicestershire Live"
Meanwhile, club captain Morgan is expected to retire at the end of the current campaign. Furthermore, he is, according to reports, to take an executive position with the King Power outfit upon retirement. Additionally, Morgan has hailed new acquisition Wesley Fofana for his superb early performances in a Leicester shirt. The former Nottingham Forest man said it’s a joy to watch someone with such youth performing so well and assuredly.
