Leicester: What’s next for Christian Fuchs after leaving Foxes
By Akash Roy
The fan-favorite Austrian left-back has decided to leave Leicester City after six long years this summer. Ardent fans might wonder what’s next for him?
Christian Fuchs and club captain Wes Morgan were both announced to be leaving the club before the season’s conclusion. This departure only leaves a few from that title-winning side from the 2015–16 season. Fuchs would migrate to the United States to be with his family and possibly search for a new club in the MLS.
The 35-year-old has been with the club since the summer of 2015 and was an instrumental factor in City’s title win. He played a total of 32 Premier League games during that season.
Over the last year, we saw Fuchs take a step back to make sure new upcoming young starlets got plenty of time to showcase their capabilities on the field. The likes of Luke Thomas, James Justin, and Timothy Castagne made a long-lasting impression in that left-back role.
Fuchs’ new venture for Euro 2020
Fuchs announced his international retirement after Euro 2016’s campaign. But this time, he will be a part of the tournament as a panel member of BBC Radio Five’s live team over the competition. Fuchs’ punditry duty will surely be something that the Foxes will be genuinely anticipating.
"The BBC say Fuchs will “provide his guide to the rest of Europe and will be a regular throughout the tournament.”“All I want to say is that I’m not a person who wants to say goodbye, not at all,” he told the club’s website. “I’m very convinced our paths will cross several times in the future. I feel very connected to the Club, so see you later!”- Christian Fuchs via leicestermercury."
A return to Leicester City on the cards?
In a recent interview, Fuchs had revealed that this is not a permanent goodbye as he feels deeply rooted with this club. The Austrian has met with chairman Aiyawatt ‘Top’ Srivaddhanaprabha, who is optimistic about involving a return for the local legend in any way possible after he chooses to call it a day and hang up his boots.
"“I came with a trophy, and I’m leaving with another one, when you’re attached to a club like that, there’s never really a right time to say goodbye. I’m not saying goodbye. I know I will come back eventually. I have to come back. I want to come back.”I’ve been demanded to come back by Khun Top in whatever function, whatever he is planning. But I really came as a player looking for an opportunity in England and I’m leaving as a big fan of the club. I will always be attached to Leicester City. The friends I worked with on a daily basis, those connections will be missed, having this routine, driving to the training ground, having your training, that’s a loss.”“But I have a lot to look forward to over here as well with my family, which I was looking forward to for the past nine years, so I think it was good timing to leave with another trophy in the luggage. I didn’t take the trophy with me though! I will continue playing football. That’s to be seen (where). I have a couple of years left in my legs, but it doesn’t matter where I play, I will always have Leicester in my heart, that doesn’t change.”- Fuchs added via BBC Leicester."
