Leicester City is interested in this free transfer signing, who isn't the much-talked-about Conor Chaplin.

Leicester City look to be very close in securing the first signing of the new Russell Martin era.

It's not quite as jaw-dropping as Claudio Ranieri's first purchase as Foxes boss being the world-class presence of N'Golo Kante, but it could prove to be an excellent pick-up nonetheless for League One level, as the Midlands giants edge ever closer to welcoming Conor Chaplin into the building.

Picking up the Player of the Season accolade the last time he called the third tier home with Ipswich Town, after a devastating 26-goal return, he also won back-to-back promotions with the Tractor Boys, which is beneficial to Leicester's current state.

He is far from the only free transfer purchase catching the eye of the one-time Premier League champions right now, however, with another £0 move being speculated.

Another free transfer signing could be in the works

In a previous Foxes of Leicester article, I stated that Leicester could be tempted by picking up Myles Peart-Harris this off-season, with the 23-year-old set to rip up his contract with Oxford United.

He is now officially a free agent, and my prediction that the Foxes might be in the hunt for the £0 playmaker has come eerily true, with Football League World reporting that Leicester, alongside Queens Park Rangers, are keen on his coveted signature.

The R's have been intrigued by the possibility of landing Peart-Harris since 2024, the report further elaborates, with the London-born midfielder touted as a huge prospect for the future when on the books of Brentford.

He would eventually leave the Bees behind, and despite showing off flashes of his excellence with the U's, he is without a club heading into July.

Leicester will hope they stand a chance of landing Peart-Harris over the R's, who reside in the Championship, as it would be another exciting purchase - next to the statement signing of Chaplin - ahead of the League One campaign kicking off.

This would be another exciting purchase

Once a product of the esteemed Chelsea academy, Peart-Harris would make a name for himself in the senior game swapping Cobham for the G-Tech Community Stadium.

Nine Premier League appearances would fall into his lap for Brentford, with it clear that Peart-Harris is a talent with a much higher ceiling than League One.

Still, his playing days haven't been without their difficulties, with the 23-year-old looking to rebuild his career after Oxford opted against extending his short-term deal at the Kassam this summer.

Witrh 22 goals and assists next to his name in both League One and the Championship, snapping up Peart-Harris might prove to be a shrewd capture, with the free agent playmaker further capable of playing down the wings, and as a centre forward, away from occupying a number ten spot on the pitch.

Like Chaplin, too, he has experience of getting out of League One, as he was a third-tier champion with loan side Portsmouth at the close of the 2022/23 season, having played his part as a livewire presence John Mousinho could throw into contests.

While Sheffield Wednesday continue to operate at a breakneck speed in the transfer department, Leicester is yet to get up and running with its own drastically needed makeover.

Chaplin could break the transfer silence very shortly, with Peart-Harris perhaps another acquisition that will follow after the serial promotion winner is confirmed as a King Power player.
