It’s Jonny Evans’ time to shine for Leicester City, dethroning Wes Morgan in the process

Dismantling and replacing a team of incredible champions: no one said it was gonna be easy! It turns out it is not simple, although, Leicester City manager Claude Puel put some players out to pasture, there is still the issue of Wes Morgan in the team; can Jonny Evans displace the diminishing club legend:

This is getting silly now. Not long ago, a former Nottingham Forest player won the league with Leicester City. Wow. How amazing. Unfortunately, by no fault of Wes Morgan’s, he inexplicably remains in the side. Now, following two dismissals in three matches, Jonny Evans must replace the club legend!

Claude Puel should have already eased Evans’ transition into the side at the King Power Stadium, by constantly playing the Northern Irishman through any shakily poor or bad periods of play. Therefore, giving him ample time to acclimatise to his new home. Unfortunately, and remarkably, the boss still sees something in the 34-year-old predecessor to the new centre-back.

Why the Frenchman sticks with the Jamaican is beyond Foxes of Leicester. In fact, since the second red for the player at this early stage of the season, Puel stated roughly: “old dogs can learn new tricks.” Amazingly, he is referring to Morgan and his ability to adapt to the Premier League, even at his age.

Whilst being embarrassed by the mediocre to the sublime, up and down the country – in a calamitous combination with the gaffer – costing Leicester City points. Before you think it, or even say aloud; yes the second yellow versus Everton was mildly harsh.

However, Morgan should have been off earlier – seemingly ‘asking for it’ with a halfway line challenge from behind on the same opponent – Richarlison. It’s just not good enough; don’t let Morgan off the hook because he won the premiership. It is irrelevant to Leicester City’s current scenario.

It wasn’t long after BBC Sport announced Evans’ debut against Wolverhampton Wanderers, that he was criticised for a disappointing display, by fans and media alike. Whereas, Morgan typifies the small amount of ignorant spectators’ opinion: he is applauded for committment when consistently producing Sunday league type decisions and quality. Something Puel ironically is trying to eradicate, and hates.

A good example

Some will argue Morgan needs to continue in the side to show leadership and a good example for the young defenders coming through: no, this type of red card serves as a terrible epitome for starlets developing their game.

Use Harry Maguire, at present, as a role model. That is my advice. This does not mean the Jamaica international cannot provide guidance to teammates and the squad at large; preferably behind the scenes or as the fourth choice centre-back at the club.

Incidentally, another excellent player who values youth and looks to help them, is Evans. BBC Sport explain he is somewhat of the elder statesman for the Green and White Army.

The 30-year-old is known for his maturity – in spite of the Taxi incident, which Daily Mail explains – and happiness to oblige and indulge youthful footballers looking to learn.

Dethrone

In addition, let us not forget how revered the former Old Trafford player was by Alex Ferguson, as the Mail state. Not to mention, Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City and Arsene Wenger’s – at the time – Arsenal, courting the defender less than a year ago.

There is also a chance that Caglar Soyuncu will eventually get his debut for Leicester City. Providing he solves his ‘communication’ issues. If he performs well, maybe Puel will consider the 3-4-3; although, predictably, he’ll most likely continue with the 4-2-3-1.

Next. 3-4-3 or another right-back at Leicester City. dark

Friday evening sees Evans in action for Northern Ireland in Austria at the Ernst Happel Stadion. Kick-off in the Nations League is 19:45pm BST – if you’d like to view the Foxes’, hopeful, new starting centre-back.
