Could this duo help Leicester City’s European dream?
With Europa League on Leicester City’s schedule next season, the depth of the squad must improve at the club if they are to cement themselves as European regulars.
After being relegated with AFC Bournemouth, both Callum Wilson and Josh King have been linked with moves away from the Vitality Stadium. And may well be on Leicester City’s radar.
King has become a shock target for French champions, PSG, with many Premier League sides looking to raid the Cherries strikeforce.
Could the both strengthen the Leicester City squad?
Since his debut season in the top flight, King has scored 48 times in 161 appearances. His best goalscoring season came in 2016/17, where he found the net 16 times as the Cherries finished 9th in their second-ever season in the Premier League.
Eddie Howe often played King on the left, where he managed three goals and assists throughout the season. When played behind the striker, he only managed two goals (with them being penalties) and as a striker, he struck in the 1-0 victory over Manchester United.
In the 2018/19 season, King was 9th with the most pressures throughout the season whilst this season was number one in non-penalty expected goals per shot ahead of Jamie Vardy and Chris Wood.
King’s versatility to play out wide, behind the striker and as a natural striker will certainly be a welcome addition to King Power Stadium.
Wilson has made more than 100 Premier League starts for Bournemouth since his move from Coventry City in 2014. His 20 goals helped the Cherries earn promotion to the top flight before netting 20 times in 61 appearances in his three first seasons in the Premier League.
The following season (2018/19) he scored 14 goals in 29 starts as Bournemouth reached 14th in the league and the quarter-finals of the EFL Cup.
However, his performances declined last season as the side were relegated. His shots, shots on target and shots on target percentage all decreased despite playing more. The form of the side wouldn’t have helped, but his poor form could hinder a potential move.
With Ryan Fraser failing to produce similar performances from the season before, it was the same for King and Wilson. Wilson committed 55 fouls, with 10 yellow cards. Although his discipline could be perceived as a negative, it does show his determination to win the ball back and force defenders into a mistake.
Both could be useful signings for Leicester. Despite their poor seasons, they have showcased their ability in the past and with four competitions upcoming, they would be suitable additions.
