At the time of writing, no Leicester City transfers have been confirmed or seem to be imminently announced via media. Is promoting youth good enough?

While I am going to acknowledge and stress that the waiting game being played by Leicester City with regard to Ben Chilwell’s imminent exit is inadvisable, it is understandable with the amount of money that the Foxes have tied up in a newly built state-of-the-art training facility. Along with plans for the King Power Stadium’s expansion meaning there’s little else available.

Therefore Leicester’s recruitment department appear to be awaiting new funds – presumably via ownership instruction – before bidding for their own transfer targets. A dangerous strategy, indeed.

Consequently, the only other option to properly prepare for the East Midlanders’ crucial 2020/21 campaign, is to promote youth. And, in addition to signing less players or being more frugal due to the effects of the coronavirus, that is exactly what Daily Mail suggests Brendan Rodgers will do.

Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall’s Leicester City chance

Former youth athlete Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall is a highly-rated prospect; at Blackpool last season he was also truly impressive. His debut was made against Brentford in the FA Cup for Leicester, and I can attest to the 21-year-old’s slickness in midfield.

Furthermore, the aforementioned outlet claims Dewsbury-Hall is the next breakthrough Foxes starlet, per former player Dean Hammond.

Some of the Blue Army will be upset that nobody is being signed to replace the outgoing Papy Mendy. But the Frenchman was second or third choice under Rodgers so, with his obvious talent, Dewsbury-Hall seems a great selection for elevation to us at Foxes of Leicester. Always remember what Alan Hansen said about Alex Ferguson’s ‘kids’.

Centre-midfield isn’t the area of the squad needing strengthening, anyway: a left-winger is desperately needed, along with a new left-back if Chilwell leaves. And maybe a striker, too.

There are reports that Leicester will play Birmingham City in a behind closed doors friendly in the near future. Although neither club has yet confirmed a pre-season clash, let alone a date for the fixture.
