When Leicester City announced the signing of Adrien Silva from Sporting Lisbon in 2017, no-one would have predicted how it would have panned out.

With the deal lasting the majority of the summer, it was finally completed on transfer deadline day as Craig Shakespeare prepared for his first full season in charge at Leicester City.

In a deal worth around £24 million, Adrien Silva’s move was rejected by Fifa after the paperwork arrived too late, forcing the Portugal international to train and not play.

Once the deal was completed at the start of 2018, Silva was brought into the team and called his opening six months in England “very frustrating.”

However, the move hasn’t reached the ceiling everyone would have hoped for. While the former Sporting Lisbon man did impress in the latter part of his debut season, but under Claude Puel and Brendan Rodgers, chances have been hard to come by.

Having spent the past 18 months on loan at Monaco, a permanent switch did not materialise and the 28 year old is now on the hunt for an alternative route out of the club. Islam Slimani also played for the French club last year and has been linked to a move elsewhere.

According to Di Marzio, Sampdoria are interested in Silva. Managed by title-winning boss Claudio Ranieri, the Serie A side want to add his midfield presence to their squad ahead of next season.

With only one year left on his contract, Rodgers will be looking to ship Silva out this summer knowing the club will make a loss.

Despite returning from his loan in France, the Portuguese is yet to appear for the Foxes in any of their pre-season games. In addition, he confirmed that he sees his future elsewhere earlier this summer and if he is going to feature for his country in the European Championship, he must get regular football.

With Rodgers’ men competing in four competitions next season, including the Europa League, Silva will be a handy player to have around. His previous experience in European football will offer something the likes of James Maddison and Wilfred Ndidi lack.

Whatever happens to Silva, both parties will be hoping to conclude it pretty soon. The Premier League season starts a week today and the Foxes will be looking to bring in another player before travelling to West Brom.

If Silva is allowed to leave, a move for Dwight McNeil, Said Benrahma or David Brooks could finally edge closer.
