This is what Saint-Etienne manager and former Leicester City boss Claude Puel said to Wesley Fofana about his Foxes transfer.

Wesley Fofana is one for the future at Leicester City, like Caglar Soyuncu was before him. Although the Turk was thrust into the side seemingly as somewhat of a stopgap replacement for the departing starting centre-back, Harry Maguire.

Therefore, unforeseen injuries or suspensions to Soyuncu or his defensive partner Jonny Evans would cause an almost certain elevation for the 19 year old new Foxes defender. And from what Foxes of Leicester have seen as well as heard from the French starlet, his premature introduction to Premier League life could be a blessing in disguise.

Leicester City wish comes true

Fofana wanted a transfer to Leicester, we know this because he took the rather uncommon step of conducting an interview with a national media outlet and claiming the switch would be a life changing scenario for him and his family.

While his then club, Saint-Etienne – with Head Coach and former Foxes boss Claude Puel at the helm – wanted desperately to keep their fledgling centre-half. Only a high but fair price would tempt les Verts’ president – which it eventually did.

Puel is not known to have said anything too bad about the East Midlands outfit, publicly anyway. In fact he was a model professional when the club went through the devastating loss of late chairman Vichai Srivaddhanaprabha. The football along with personality simply wasn’t compatible.

But what did the ex-King Power gaffer say to his player when the deal was agreed? Well, a very civil Puel told Fofana he wanted to keep him, but accepted his decision. Ultimately a good character trait emerged from the latter, as he is quoted as saying: “I didn’t want to start a war”. Furthermore, the youngster said he’s on fine terms with his former mentor and St. Etienne; Fofana is also content that he raised funds for them.
