At present, many Leicester City players are away from the club on international duty. Dennis Praet’s Belgian absence hints at a potential injury problem.

Leicester City have multiple injury issues at present. There are long-term absentees such as Ricardo Pereira, a player who’s arguably been the club’s top performer in recent campaigns.

Then there are recent but seemingly constant strugglers like James Maddison and Filip Benkovic. It is hoped that midfield leader and icon, Wilfred Ndidi, will return by Christmas after he underwent surgery. Jonny Evans is now back to full fitness.

Daniel Amartey was out for almost two-years before his impressive Premier League comeback in the victory against Manchester City at Etihad Stadium. Amartey did also play in the disappointing loss to Arsenal in the Carabao Cup – but the less said about that, the better.

Having more injures than usual is indicative of matches played in rapid succession, following the awful coronavirus pandemic. Although, the majority of fans and players, if surveyed, would certainly want to continue with domestic and international football whatever the structure.

Dennis Praet is also a doubt for the Aston Villa match when top-flight action resumes. Praet endured a knee problem against Man City, and was subsequently unavailable for the demoralising defeat to West Ham United. Yet the midfielder was still chosen to participate in the Belgium squad by national boss Roberto Martinez.

In the Red Devils’ initial game of this break, Praet was an unneeded substitute. In the loss to England on Sunday, Praet wasn’t on the bench. Considering Martinez’s use of the Fox as a backup and fielded sub in many recent outings, this could be an indication that the issue has deteriorated.

Obviously the 26 year old may just have been left out of the matchday team, too. Belgium play Iceland at Laugardalsvollur stadium in Reykjavik on Wednesday evening. Hopefully the former Sampdoria man plays some part and is fit, once again.
