In all honesty, Foxes of Leicester writers have been expecting this one for years. Leicester City are linked with a move for Real Madrid’s Martin Odegaard.

The Foxes always seem to be connected with footballers who don’t quite make the grade at superclubs around the world. Barcelona’s Philippe Coutinho – the Brazilian incidentally came to prominence on the world stage under Brendan Rodgers’ tutelage at Liverpool – would be a prime example in recent times. Although, Coutinho did great things in the Premier League and could rise again, surely.

Anyway, the reason we mention talented ‘almost guys’, is that Leicester were reportedly recently interested in signing Martin Odegaard of Real Madrid on loan. Los Blancos’ playmaker has improved recently while temporarily at Real Sociedad last season: the Norway international managed a goal involvement pretty much every three matches, on average.

Odegaard, now age-22, is “expecting to be granted his wish to leave on loan this month for regular first-team football”, according to Sky Sports. Yet, the outlet suggests that the King Power club’s interest has cooled; Arsenal are now the frontrunners to sign the ex-wunderkind.

Transfer rumours and other Leicester City updates

Other players connected with a possible transfer to Leicester this month, include: Porto midfielder Otavio, Celtic’s forward Odsonne Edouard, midfielder Mattias Svanberg of Bologna, Marcus Tavernier, another midfield man this time at Middlesbrough, centre-back Ozan Kabak of Schalke, and Florian Thauvin, a World Cup winner winger at Marseille.

Elsewhere in the orbit of the east Midlands side, Marc Albrighton did a brief question and answer session with EPL about mental health during lockdown. The revitalised Leicester winger, who is also a former English top-flight champion, said that he listens to mindset positive podcasts and stays focussed on his current objectives.
