Leicester: Things to know about transfer target Gerard Moreno
Leicester City are apparently targeting prolific Spanish striker Gerard Moreno. Here are some things to know about the Foxes’ latest transfer target.
Just today – Tuesday – Foxes of Leicester published a piece outlining Brendan Rodgers’ intentions for the summer window. While Janie Vardy is still going as strong as can be expected, and Kelechi Iheanacho is playing a great supporting role, the Northern Irishman confirmed that the east Midlands side desire another goalscorer during the upcoming off-season.
Many names have already been associated with a switch to King Power Stadium, including Celtic star Odsonne Edouard, and Raul de Tomas who plays for RCD Espanyol. Yet nothing in the speculation world has transformed into concrete news, as of now.
As you are most probably aware, the Foxes rewarded some fine work from Iheanacho in March in particular. The Nigerian may now be on Filbert Way for at least another three years, with a new, lucrative deal expiring in 2024. However, predictably for the more cynical members of the Blue Army among us, Nigeria’s attacker then failed to score on international duty with the Super Eagles. Then he produced a poor performance, like all of his colleagues did, versus Manchester City.
Leicester City target Villarreal forward
According to reports in Spain, as per Leicestershire Live, Leicester are monitoring another forward with a view to a bid before 2021/22 begins. Gerard Moreno, who is known simply as Gerard, is a prolific La Liga striker: last season he netted 18 and supplied five in the Spanish top-flight.
Whilst this campaign the 28-year-old has impressively managed 24 division goal involvements in as many outings. WhoScored labels the Villarreal striker’s strengths as ‘finishing, through balls, key passes and dribbling’.
And that previous figure is why there is some significant interest in the Spain man. Incidentally, Gerard’s record for his country is also eye-catching: scoring four in four, all in competitive qualifiers. He is also proficient in front of goal in the Europa League. Everyone knows the Foxes want a central midfielder with an eye for goal, but another more advanced goal-getter is emerging as vital for Rodgers’ side.
